Hiccup: "Hey! You're [Your Viking's Name], the new student? Come talk to me! Use the movement controls to walk over here."
(an image of the keyboard with the movement controls highlighted shows up)
1 - Walk forward and click on Hiccup
Hiccup: "I'm Hiccup, the chief of Berk. I'm glad you're here! I'd love to welcome you properly, but we don't have time. Berk is under attack!
We need to get in the air and stop Grimmel! Click on Toothless and select the Mount button."
2 - Click on Toothless and mount him
- Cutscene: Toothless flying through the ships and meeting up with Astrid, all from the rider's view.
Hiccup: "All right! Nothing like learning on the field, right? I need you to take the controls and fly us over to Astrid. She's the Viking right in front of us. Don't worry... Toothless and I are here with you.
(Avatar and Dragon HUD appears as well as the flying UI)
Toothless is already an expert flyer. You just need to tell him where!
(arrow points to the boost button)
This is the boost button. Click it for a short boost, or hold it down for a long sprint. Your dragon will slow down once you let go.
(arrow points to the brake button)
This is the brake button. Click it to slow down, or hold it down to stop your dragon."
3 - Fly up to meet Astrid
Astrid: "Hiccup... and a new student! Well, you chose a great time to join the fight. Grimmel's here!"
Grimmel: "You delay the inevitable, Hiccup. By the end of this, your Night Fury will belong to me. All the dragons you protect will belong to my employers. It is destiny."
- Cutscene: Hiccup preparing to free fall and use the Flight suit to invade a Warlord Ship.
Astrid: "Okay, then. That leaves the other ship for you and me! Avoid the incoming arrows and use the Fire button to shoot the ship with the red sails!"
Hiccup: "(Fire HUD appears with an arrow pointing at it as well as the dragon's health (484HP))
To shoot a fireball, click the fireball button! It can take some time for your dragon to get ready to fire another one.
Your health is shown in the red health meter. If it reaches zero, you will reset to a safe zone to regenerate."
- Note: While Hiccup refers the Battle Health as a "red health meter", it's actually green.
4 - Shoot down the boat with the red sails! (requires 2 shots)
- Cutscene: Warlords abandoning the sinking ship followed by the Player riding Toothless returning to land; Grimmel is seen fleeing smoothly away.
Astrid: "We did it! Those lousy trappers will have a long way to swim home from here."
Hiccup: "Great job, you two, but it's not over yet...
You'll need to find the right tool for the job. I'll try to keep this poor wounded dragon calm while you find an axe. Hurry!"
5 - Find the axe
(always located in a piece of ice nearby the cage)
Hiccup: "Great! This should cut through the rope holding that trap!
We need to save that dragon! Step up to the rope and click on the Axe Button."
6 - Chop the rope holding the dragon trap
Hiccup: "That did it!
There's just one more problem for us to fix.
7 - Click on the cage and unlock it
There, there... it's going to be okay, big guy. [Your Viking's Name], you freed this mighty dragon so they'll trust you the most. I want --you-- to bond with the dragon. Step forward, reach out your hand, and click on the dragon."
8 - Click on the wounded dragon
Reward: 1 Adult dragon (unlocks the Stable Missions)
- Note: Because the dragon is already an adult, this is the only time you can freely color it and name it, after it, it will cost 15 and 50 respectively.
- Cutscene: After customization, the dragon cautiously walks forwards and lets the player bond with them.
Hiccup: "You did it! You're a natural. I can see the connection between you and [Your Dragon's Name] already. Our first priority as dragon trainers is to protect and grow with dragons. Come talk to me!"
9 - Talk to Hiccup
Hiccup: "What a first day of school, huh? I can tell that you're going to be an amazing dragon trainer with just a little mentoring!
We'll help you figure out how to care for your dragon. You'll find Mulch by the lake. He's Berk's best fisherman!"
10 - Talk to Mulch
Mulch: "Hey there, young Viking! I have a saying: to keep a dragon happy, keep their belly full! Fish are a dragon's favorite meal. I'll give you a few trout to get you started."
Hiccup: "Your dragon likes fish, just like Toothless! The meters on the top left of the screen will tell you when the dragon is hungry or wants to play. Click on [Your Dragon's Name], click on the eating utensils and click on the fish you want to give the dragon!"
A box will then appear, pointing at the Blue Meter, saying:
- This is the energy bar. Feed fish to your dragon to keep this full. If the bar gets too low, your dragon will be too tired to ride or fly on.
The last sentence is a complete lie as player can still ride and fly with a hungry dragon.
11 - Click on [Your Dragon's Name] and click on the fork to feed them
Hiccup: "Great! Feeding [Your Dragon's Name] increases the Energy meter. Make sure to have a lot of fish handy to feed your buddy! When they get sad, you need to click on them and click on the eel button."
Valka: "Hello there! I see that my son has already taught you the basics. If he thinks you're ready for the next step, you're ready. Cloudjumper and I will take you to the Hatchery!"
(Click the check mark will result in the player being teleported to the Hatchery)
Gobber: "Ahh! Your dragon looks like they could use a good long nap after what they've been through. I'll take them to your stables to rest while you talk to Valka!"
Valka: "I am Valka. I have devoted my entire life to understanding and protecting these beautiful creatures. I will help you on your journey to adopt and raise a baby dragon. Talk to me and we'll discover which dragon suits you best."
(Your dragon will be inactive though you can now freely walk around and leave the objective location, your dragon will return to you if you leave the Hatchery and the destruction of the Geyser Elevator cutscene will play.)
12 - Talk to Valka
This will bring the Personality Test which will bring 5 out of 17 questions.
!: "What goes through your mind during a race?
What is your favorite season?

13 - Click on a dragon egg and hatch it
(Cuts to Customize Your Dragon screen, where you can color it, name it and choose the gender)

Valka: "Aww, that dragon is a beauty. What awonderful choice! Now, let me show you a very useful that will help you out at the School. Click on yourself and take a look at the menu that appears!"
14 - Click on yourself and look at the menu
- Note: You'll have to exit the menu to trigger the next dialogue.
Valka: "These buttons are shortcuts to many important options in the game. You can customize your clothing or your dragons, find minigames, or look at your active quests in your Journal!"
Hiccup: "Sorry to interrupt, but, we're under attack! If it's not one villain, it's another.
Harald and his men have brought some sort of explosive device here and we need to stop him. Valka, please protect the dragon nests. Come with me, [your Viking's name]; let's see what we can do.
Click in your dragon and then click on the Stable button.
[Clicking on the Dragon and on the Stable button will trigger the next dialogue piece]
You can see all of your dragons here. Click on the dragon you want by your side and click "Make active" to activate him."
15 - Go to the School
- Cutscene: Harald implementing the bomb and shattering the Geyser Elevator, opening the entrance to the Hidden World Annex.
Astrid: "Oh, dear Odin.
I need you to talk to the Headmaster of the School. He's the teacher standing in front of the school building.
16 - Talk to the Headmaster
Headmaster: "I am the Headmaster. I wish we were meeting under better circumstances, but welcome to the School of Dragons! Vikings who have a quest for you will have a golden exclamation over their heads. Click on them and accept the quest.
It may seem difficult, but I know that you will be up to the challenge."
- Players that created a game prior to the v2.3.0 games do not unlock this tutorial, given the fact that they have already completed the old tutorial;
- This could cause a big disadvantage when it comes to leveling up and unlocking the Stable Missions.
|Warning! This page is a work in progress!|
New Student has been a tutorial quest ever since the beginning of the game, though it played a lot more differently, before, the player was a Student who missed the boat to The School but Hiccup helped the player by taking them on a ride with Toothless and quickly head to The School. At the School, the player would be taken to the Hatchery to choose a Primary Starter Dragon. Things like Fishing would be teached in a different level such as Wilderness Training and at the time, Battle Events and Stable Missions didn't existed, therefore there wasn't a need to teach players how to Battle or better yet, give them, an extra Dragon.
It wasn't until October 20th, 2016, in v2.3.0 nearly one month after the release of Battle Events, the
